Hii There. This post is about my laptop Acer Aspire ES11. I decided to make this post so that you know about the system on which I test all operating systems I come across and also the one on which I will be writing all my posts from.
Specs:
So coming to the specs, This system has a Intel Celeron(R) N3350 Dual Core CPU which clocks to 1.1GHz, 2GB of DDR3L ram built in and a 64-bit architecture. Comes with 500GB hard disk and an empty slot for adding another hard disk. There is also a slot to add extra ram. The 2GB one is shouldered onto the board. Maximum ram supported is 8GB.I am going to add a 4GB one in that slot this week.
Not very high specs, just a rather budget laptop but this thing also has its own features like though the processor says 1.1GHz max on each core so 2.2GHz at max but It usually goes upto 2.4GHz. Let me tell you that this is there even when this laptop doesn’t has a built-in fan. If I use an external cooler, I can get more clocking speeds I guess, but I don’t want to do that. I am also not a gamer kind of person. I mostly use this thing for college work apart from trying different Operating systems. This thing can run almost every OS decently. And that’s enough for me right now.
About BIOS Firmware:
Coming to BIOS firmware and default Operating system, This laptop comes with InsydeH20 rev:5.0 UEFI Firmware and Linpus Linux pre-Instaled. My dad got Win 8 installed while purchasing so I could not get my hands on Linpus Linux.
The UEFI Firmware that comes with this system is not correctly implemented. It doesn’t allow the owner to make many changes, only secure boot can be enabled or disabled and there is only option to clear default secure boot keys and reset them to default. That option is pretty useless b’coz they haven’t given a key management utility with it. There is no option to change the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy boot. Infact, there is no option to change boot mode any how. Only UEFI supported. No Legacy 😦 . The UEFI-shell is also missing.
After reading this you might be thinking that this laptop is pretty locked and useless But Let me tell you I have recently managed to tweak around and get UEFI-Shell and a key management utility on this. Working on getting Legacy OS booted up.
That’s all about my system. Don’t be quick to judge it. It’s a small portable and a very good system. You will see. Till then, Bye.
